Description:

Welcome to Electrotek Concepts®, the world's leading provider of power and energy systems analysis, planning, and solutions. We are recognized for expertise in power quality, distributed generation, renewable energy, energy management, and utility communication systems. We specialize in solving power quality related problems via measurements, simulations, and analysis.

About Electrotek Concepts®
Electrotek Concepts is a recognized developer and provider of state of the art services and solutions for electric utilities, electric power consumers, government agencies, and other parties. We specialize in

-Utility and industrial power systems engineering
-Utility and large scale power system monitoring and performance assessment
-Distributed resource and renewable energy planning and engineering
-Utility industry restructuring programs
-SCADA/EMS and utility communication system planning, design, and development
-Energy efficiency and infrastructure project design, development, and implementation

Electrotek is best known for its power systems engineering expertise. Our staff is recognized throughout the world as having the expertise to analyze virtually any power system issue and develop and implement a wide range of solutions. In addition, we have an experienced software development staff that has developed advanced software tools to measure, identify, analyze, and solve many of the problems or questions confronting power providers and users. We also provide consulting services for strategy development and energy efficiency/energy management projects critical for restructuring, privatizing, or deregulated utility markets.

We are particularly renowned for our work in power quality, performing extensive research in the area for EPRI® and other organizations. Our employees have been instrumental in the development of power quality standards and guidelines for interconnection of renewable and distributed generation assets to the main power grid. Among our power quality related offerings, we provide both monitoring systems and engineering services to utilities and their customers.

We pioneered the concept of systematic power quality monitoring and collaborated with sister company Dranetz-BMI to develop the Signature SystemTM, a web-based system offering power quality and energy monitoring, along with analytical tools for problem solving and energy management. We offer a wide array of power quality engineering and consulting services, providing solutions to existing power system problems as well as recommendations to ensure power system reliability for facilities under construction or renovation.

In addition to power quality, Electrotek offers a full range of services for implementation and optimization of renewable energy and distributed generation. These services include feasibility assessments, analyzing impacts on power system reliability and service quality, and interconnection/compatibility studies. Offering recognized expertise in wind energy, we provide a variety of engineering and technical services for integrating wind generation into utility networks.

We developed a comprehensive distribution system simulation and analysis package, the Distco SuiteTM, to assess current conditions on power distribution networks and perform "what if" analyses for integration of DG. Along with these capabilities, we offer performance monitoring of distributed generation and renewable energy assets along with training on integrating DG into utility and customer power systems. Leveraging our strong R&D background, we are partnering with Dranetz-BMI to develop data collection and control technology that will facilitate aggregation of distributed generation to participate in load curtailment and demand side management programs.

Electrotek is a leader in international utility industry restructuring and energy efficiency programs, providing extensive technical support and project management to the United States Agency for International Development and other agencies for countries throughout Central and Eastern Europe. We provide services for all project stages - analysis, design, development, research, training, planning, and hardware specification and procurement. We also perform technical and financial due diligence, assess and implement financing mechanisms, and oversee implementation.

We also provide planning and engineering support for SCADA/EMS projects around the globe, helping utilities to improve their command and control systems. We have also established ourselves in the utility communications engineering field, performing feasibility studies and providing design and systems integration support to cities and utilities throughout the United States.

Founded in 1984, Electrotek in 1995 merged with Basic Measuring Instruments to form WPT, Inc., which has since acquired Dranetz Technologies and Daytronic Corporation. Primary offices are located in Knoxville, Tennessee; Arlington, Virginia; Cupertino, California; and Sofia Bulgaria.

The Electrotek Software Quality System
The goal of Electrotek's Software Quality System is to ensure that all our software products satisfy customer requirements. The system also ensures that software development is performed according to a standardized process. The Electrotek Software Quality System conforms to ANSI/ISO/ASQC Q9001-1994.

All processes that involve more than one person or that are not intuitive to the person who performs them are documented in procedures. The company's ISO management representative has the responsibility to periodically audit the quality system both to ensure that it is being followed correctly and to proactively find ways to improve it.

Because software development is by nature a creative activity, the quality system does not specify the design and development methodologies themselves. Instead, the quality system focuses on the management and review of each software project to ensure that the design and implementation meets the specified requirements. To this end, all work items (e.g., source code, design documentation, user documentation, et al.) are controlled.

The Electrotek Software Quality System is implemented on all Electrotek software projects, both internal and external, except for throwaway prototype work. Its procedures are designed to be flexible enough to be used on any software project. In exceptional cases, the project manager documents the necessary changes to the process in the project's quality and test plan and has them approved by the quality manager.

Under the system, every software project has documented, approved requirements, a project plan, a quality & test plan, and a build plan. These items are described below:

Every project has documented, approved requirements before the beginning of design activities.

Every project has a project plan that specifies all the planned development activities for the project. It is established at the beginning of the project, and it is updated as the project progresses. The project plan specifies the project objectives, management, organization, schedule, and deliverables.
Every project has a quality & test plan that specifies the planned verification and validation activities for the project. It is established at the beginning of the project, and it is updated as the project progresses. The purpose of the quality & test plan is to ensure that the delivered product meets its stated requirements.

Every project has a build plan that specifies the parts that combine to make the final product. It details the order in which the subproducts (modules) are combined along with their interrelationships. It is created at the beginning of the project; and at the end, it serves as the list of deliverables for the final software product.
