Panasonic Communications Selects Mentor Graphics Catapult C Synthesis for Network Terminal Equipment Applications

WILSONVILLE, Ore.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 9, 2005--Mentor Graphics Corporation (Nasdaq:MENT) today announced that Panasonic Communications Co., Ltd. has selected the Mentor Graphics Catapult(TM) C Synthesis tool after evaluating leading high-level synthesis tools. Panasonic Communications chose the Catapult C Synthesis tool based on the product's maturity and the productivity improvements it offers by synthesizing pure ANSI C++ descriptions.

"During our evaluation, we found Catapult C's quality of results and ease-of-use to be very convincing," said Dr. Akitoshi Matsuda, Corporate Information Systems Group, Panasonic Communications. "Using the tool, we are able to realize the benefits of algorithmic synthesis, which uses pure ANSI C++ system models as input. Algorithmic synthesis requires far less manual effort, allowing us to specify interfaces and hierarchy using constraints, and instantly target FPGA or ASIC implementations without changing the original pure C++ source."

Panasonic Communications designs application specific integrated circuits (ASICs) used in their voice, data and video communication systems. The company typically implements its algorithmic designs in a field programmable gate array (FPGA) prototype for real-time performance and functional validation before retargeting the design to an ASIC for production. The manual effort required to create register-transfer level (RTL) descriptions for both FPGA prototypes and ASICs left no time for design exploration, leading the company to explore high-level synthesis.

The Catapult C Synthesis tool is the only product to automatically create RTL from a pure ANSI C++ source where both the core algorithm and interface are untimed. This productivity improvement gives designers time to perform detailed "what-if" analysis on varying micro-architecture and interface scenarios to quickly achieve fully optimized hardware designs for either FPGA or ASIC implementations. The tool creates RTL that can be synthesized into gates using standard RTL synthesis products, enabling it to fit within a wide variety of tool flows.

"Panasonic Communications is an expert in using high-level synthesis tools to achieve time-to-market and quality goals for network terminal products," Simon Bloch, general manager of Design Creation and Synthesis Division. "We are honored that such an outstanding company has selected Catapult C Synthesis as it deploys the benefits of algorithmic synthesis."

Panasonic Releases Component Library for Nexxim and Ansoft Designer

PITTSBURGH, Jun 09, 2005 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Panasonic and Ansoft Corporation (NASDAQ: ANST) today announced the release of a new device library for Nexxim(TM) and Ansoft Designer(R) based on Panasonic's high-density miniaturized surface-mount technology (SMT) components. Engineers designing electronic equipment, such as cellular handsets, car navigation systems, and Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs), can now design large-scale PCBs with accurate electrical models for these high-performance parts.

"Panasonic is pleased to complement Ansoft's powerful simulation technologies with a device library for our most advanced surface-mount components," said Mr. Hiroshi Takahashi, Senior Operating Officer, Product Development, at Panasonic. "We look forward to expanding the library in the future to include LCR composites, noise suppression components, baluns, SAW devices and power supplies to benefit our mutual customers."

The library currently consists of three principal passive SMT components:

-- 159 multilayer ceramic chip capacitors (MLCC)

-- 186 chip resistors

-- 45 chip inductors

Panasonic SMT components are offered in both equivalent circuit and S-parameter form and can be used in Nexxim and Ansoft Designer. Panasonic device models are reputed for their accuracy and robustness, and all extracted parasitic elements and coupling have been verified to converge under all operating conditions.

The library is available from Panasonic's Web site (http://industrial.panasonic.com/i/library.html) and is easy to download and configure for use within Nexxim and Ansoft Designer. This site provides Ansoft customers with the ability to search for components by name, performance data or other specification. Panasonic will maintain model support and upgrades, while Ansoft will address all customer support for Nexxim and Ansoft Designer.

Answer the Phone: Your Identity is on the Line

Beverly Hills, CA -- (ArriveNet - May 06, 2005) -- There hasn't been much good news in the battle against identity theft lately, with fraudsters staying one step ahead of the game. But don't panic, our old friend the telephone has come to the rescue.

We're all aware of the problem of identity theft, but did you know that your local pizza chain has had a solution for years? You recognize it as the system that prevents little Johnny from having twenty pizzas delivered to your door at midnight: the pizza chain calls you immediately after the order is placed to verify the validity of the order. Because little Johnny is afraid to be caught, he'll think twice about causing this pizza-related havoc.

TeleSign's patent-pending verification system has transferred this pizza concept to the high-tech world. It works like this: after filling out a form on a website, the user is prompted to enter his phone number. A robotic system then places a call to that number and speaks aloud a unique three digit code. Once that code is entered into the website, the authentication is complete. This system can be implemented at any point on a website: at registration, purchase, a specific time interval, or at the request of a user.

Email verification is the current standard for user authentication, but email may end up filtered, junked, bulked, or trashed. Because of spam, viruses, and phishing, email filtering has become so aggressive that even legitimate emails don't reach the inbox. But a telephone call cannot be stopped, making this the perfect time for the introduction of TeleSign’s solution.

The future of ecommerce is threatened by rampant fraud and lack of trust. TeleSign will force anonymous users to expose their faces by revealing their working phone numbers.
