VIP Plus is a PC/Windows XP™ based Image Processor that delivers enhanced diagnostic capabilities for the visualization, measurement and analysis of PCB assemblies, components and internal electrical interconnections.

FocalSpot created VIP Plus as a x-ray diagnostic tool for their Verifier Series of X-Ray Inspection Solutions and as a standalone upgrade for virtually any X-Ray Inspection System used for electronics manufacturing quality assurance. Verifer HR High-Resolution X-Ray Inspection Solution Under $60K

Rosemont, Ill. ATExpo (Sept 28, 2004) – FocalSpot, Inc (www.focalspot.com), a provider of advanced BGA/SMT inspection and rework solutions to the SMT electronic manufacturers industry, today announced the their newest innovation, the Verifer-HR, FSX-090 a high-resolution x-ray system that handles large bare or populated PCB assemblies up to 16” x 18” or component packages down to 0201. The Verifer-HR is a powerful (90KV) yet affordable (<$60K) high-resolution (5-micron) and high-magnification (>650X) x-ray system designed for fast intuitive operation. It supports a broad range of inspection applications from detailed viewing of internal semiconductor interconnections (wire-bonds/die-attach) to general solder joint analysis and rework verification.

The system’s 5-micron sealed x-ray source and high-resolution 2/4 Image Intensifier provides superb image resolution, with greater than 650X magnification, making it ideally suited for inspection of BGA’s, CSP’s and flip-chip packages. The 90kV microfocus x-ray source provides more than enough power to penetrate challenging packages such as: Ceramic Column Grid Arrays, BGA with metal lids or heat sinks and devices with RF shielding.

The Verifer-HR is self-contained, and with a footprint of only 32”x 34” it can easily be moved (rolled) to where ever it is needed (i.e., production floor, prototype lab, rework area, etc.). New Portable X-Ray System for Less Than $35K Moves Across
Plant Floors, Where Needed

Anaheim, CA (February 22, 2004) – FocalSpot, Inc., a provider of inspection and rework/repair solutions and services, today in their booth (#800) at APEX introduced their newest innovation, a small and portable xray system that handles large bare or fully loaded assembled boards up to 16” x 18”. Mounted on a portable bench top, the Verifier x-ray system is an entry level, low-cost closed cabinet x-ray system with a footprint of only 29” x 32”. The system’s large field-of–view (FOV) makes it ideally suited for inspection, failure analysis and verification of reworked BGA’s, ìBGA’s and Chip scale packages (CSP’s) or other SMT components and connectors; as well as spot checks of production lines for small and medium sized EMS.

The Verifier is specifically designed to address the most common problems in the production and rework of SMT assemblies. The system provides both top down and angled viewing in continuous real-time imaging of packages from 2mm to 60mm to reliably discern bridging, missing and poor reflow shapes, and voiding. It has a high-resolution 80kV, 33-micron microfocus x-ray tube with ample power to punch through such challenging packages as Ceramic Column Grid arrays and BGA devices with metal lids and heat sinks. The angled view delivers an improved performance to detect opens, non-wets and void positions. The Large Format High Resolution Detector with Zoom lens facilitates a fast snap shot of a component in a single view for quick verification of common assembly or rework defects including >25% voiding.

The new portable x-ray system is configurable in several formats depending on the users’ requirements. The Bench top unit can be mounted on a standard electronic workbench adjacent to the customers’ existing rework equipment for complete rework and rework verification in one work cell or as a stand-alone portable unit, easily rolled for use on the production floor, for training, prototype or process verification.

Each system includes a flat panel monitor and standard computer. Add-on features include powerful automatic defect software for BGA, leaded devices, wire-bonding or drill holes, and a customized Verifier Workbench is also available.
