PCB and Electronics News Pulse Introduces 2005 Power Magnetics Catalog SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 26, 2005--Pulse(R), a Technitrol (NYSE:TNL) Company, one of the world's largest electronic component manufacturers and a leader in passive, magnetics-based components, announces the release of its 2005 Power Magnetics Catalog. Pulse offers a complete range of power magnetics for DC-to-DC converter and AC-to-DC applications. The magnetics are divided into six product types: power inductors, high-frequency switching power transformers, current sense magnetics, gate drive transformers, common mode chokes, and low frequency laminated transformers. The new 108-page catalog provides design and component engineers and purchasing agents with all the information they need to select a power magnetics product. The catalog contains a complete parts index and datasheets for each part. Over 95 percent of the components listed in Pulse's Power Magnetics Catalog are currently RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) compliant. Conversion is in process for the remaining part numbers. RoHS compliant products are indicated in the catalog by an RoHS stamp on the data sheet and an NL suffix at the end of the product part number. Easy-to-use inductor selector guides allow engineers to quickly determine, based on required inductance and current, which product line they should be considering and to quickly find a specific surface mount (SMT) or through-hole (THT) inductor part number within this product line. The catalog contains six SMT inductor product lines: unshielded drum cores, shielded drum cores, power beads, flat coils, toroids, planars and wire-wound inductors, as well as two THT product lines: toroids and power cubes. SMT power beads are for low inductance (less than 0.5 microhenry), high current (greater than 15 amperes (A) of current) applications. Flat coils are for mid-inductance (0.5 to 4 microhenries) and medium current (15 to 30A) applications. Planars have the same mid-inductance range as flat coil inductors, but they are designed for very high current applications greater than 25A. For mid-current (15 to 30A) high-inductance applications, wire-wound inductors are recommended. Both shielded and unshielded drum core inductors are typically for lower current portable or small power applications, and shielded inductors are used when electromagnetic interference is a concern. Toroid inductors are versatile multi-use platforms. Several new product families are included in the 2005 Power Magnetics Catalog. The PA0766NL is the industry's first integrated ferrite-bead inductor. This Power Bead inductor contains two independent inductors integrated into a single core structure and part number with no magnetic coupling between the two inductors. Replacing two discrete inductors with one Power Bead inductor reduces the footprint and printed circuit board cost and improves circuit performance. The PG0255 series are SMT flat coil inductors that offer a low profile, a saturation current rating up to 30A, and a heating current rating up to 38A. These inductors are designed for the multiphase voltage regulator modules (VRMs) supporting the increasing current needs of Vcore power in PC notebooks and other DC-to-DC applications. The drum core inductors consist of 96 parts covering a large range of inductance values from sub-microhenry up to millihenry values, at low ampere currents, in a variety of sizes to meet the broad range of local DC-to-DC converter and filtering applications.
